Painting Progress, paintings headed to California

Trudging away on the newest painting. Took a a day to lay in the blacks (almost like inking a comic page). Huge help in the initial paint lay-in to not lose the detail of the drawing and as a reminder how the forms and shapes hit and turn. Working this one back to front, section by section to make sure I don't lose all the detail work. If things go well I will be sending two originals to California later today to a happy new collector. Doing going going doing!! :)

New Painting Today and Teaching

Here's what's on the easel today. It's the newest piece in the ongoing narrative series I've got on the go. Been in the head for about 4 weeks, spent the last two-three days working on comps, gathering reference and did the charcoal transfer and drawing to the 12"x12" canvas this morning. The rest of the day is business stuff and teaching tonight. Hectic lately - getting the move organized, chasing some freelance work, new paintings, gallery show Friday and Studio Tour end of October (27, 28th).... should breath every once and a while :)

54th Annual Jury Show - Art Gallery of Woodstock

The 54th Annual Jury Show at the Art Gallery of Woodstock starts Friday night (the 29th) and runs until Nov. 24th. I have two pieces in the gallery during the show. If you are in the area make sure to drop in and support local artists and a great Gallery.

Father Time Featured

Got a nice bit of news for this Saturday morning. My painting "Father Time" is being featured on the front page of RedBubble for the day.

Other than that, been neck deep in promotional stuff the last two days (websites, prints, updating). I have two new pieces at the Art Gallery of Woodstock for their Jury Show starting Sept. 29th and starting to prepare for a studio tour at the end of October.... it's been a bit hectic.

Mother Earth, Father Time

Finally put the last touches on the Mother Earth painting in this two part piece. These were about 5 months in the works (about 3 months trapped in the head and about five-six weeks to create) Pretty happy with them, came out relatively close to what I had trapped in the skull. Think I am going to so some prints up (the two and the grouping) If you're interested drop me a line here or at Always a little weird wrapping one up.... have to jump into the unknown and the next one.

Helter Skelter...

Made some good progress today on the current painting on the easel. It's a companion piece to Father Time (shown below, tree man). About half way there, most of the figure work is complete and got into the second pass on the background vegetation.... trying not to get into details... arghhh....
Bit of an all over day, about 5 hours of painting, prep work for a bunch of remodeling around the house, couple hours of web work and chasing some proposals... think tomorrow is just painting. Looking forward to it.

Popping the blog cherry....

First post and what to say.... I'm a full time artist and illustrator in Elmira (Kitchener / Waterloo area), Ontario Canada. I'm a traditional realist with a love/obsession for comic art, science fiction, fantasy and cartoons with a bit or social commentary and spiritual pondering (makes for a lovely mix).
This will be a mix of completed work, work in progress and hopefully some type of interesting log of this little amazing and at times head slamming artistic journey I started about two years ago. Anyways, enough blabbering... here's a bit of what I do.
